"Things My Finnish Class Taught Me"
I now know right (oikein) from wrong (väärin). I can argue in an emergency that the capital of Norway is London or explain that a drunken polar bear is a happy bear. I can ask who sings karaoke behind the green church, or say hello all over Finland (Moro! Moi! Terve!). There is a word for snow heavy on a conifer branch: tykkylumi. If you own a house, that house is on you (Finns were nomads once). You ask What colour? with a separate word. In Finland trains change cases and turn suddenly from juna into lovely junalla. All this and still the answer to How are you doing? is Eipä ihmeempiä: No miracles yet.
